The fact that this article (first) appears in a printed publication instead of on a Web page or in an E-mail newsgroup is proof that the Internet is not yet for everyone. But some estimates show a growth in the "on-line" world from about 4%, to over 11% of American households just in the last quarter of '96 alone! And this does not take into account the number of "at work" connections....
While the World Wide Web is all you hear about nowadays, and Realtor Web Pages are being sold at every convention hall, my first netnote will address a feature far less visual than the Web... and far more important: E-mail.
Remember when you first got voicemail? Remember all the complaints and nay-sayers. Remember fax machines? Ditto. Get E-Mail NOW! E-mail is hard-copy, time/date stamped, CYA, near-instantaneous, 24/365, broadcastable, cut-and-pastable, and it doesn't cost 32 cents.
Get e-mail by signing up with any one of the big outfits: Compuserve, AOL (busy), AT&T, etc. - or a local direct provider. Big outfits are better if you travel with a laptop to other cities or use some of their fee-based services. Local providers can sometimes offer a faster connection with less busy signals but would be a long distance call from other cities. $10-20/month seems to be the going price. Do it. If you don't have a computer with a modem, plan on getting one soon. If you can't install it yourself, pay someone to do it for you.
Next issue, I'll tell you about some powerful things you can do with your new E-mail. In the meantime, I welcome your Q&A... e-mail me at chas@mnrealty.com
