Downloading Programs on the Internet and 
Using AOL Instant messenger  - Lesson 2

Face Piles of Files With Smiles....

(Stop right here and pull out last nite's lesson and re-read and review it. 
  Do it NOW!)

In our last episode, our hero had just learned how to DOWNload a file, and
had gone to bed hoping that the AOL Instant Messenger file would "be there
in the morning."

Does anyone remember where we downloaded that file to? And what was it's name? 

Here's a tip: When Downloading a file or program, always WRITE DOWN THE
NAME OF THE FILE AND FOLDER WHERE YOU PUT IT! That way when you need to use
it, you'll know where to look....

But I did this on purpose of course :)  Let me show you how to "Find a file"...

1st, the name of the file we downloaded is called - AIM95.exe  Because it
ends in ".exe" we know it's a program. Now let's find it on your computer....

Click on the [Start] button in the lower right corner
Then click [Find] then [Files or Folders]

A box pops up, this is your "finder" window.  Type in the name of the file
we are looking for --> aim95.exe

Click [Find Now] - wait while it searches. If you have done everything
right, a listing for aim95 will show up at the bottom of the Finder box.

(If you cannot "find" the file, and you did the download procedure from
lesson 1, then e-mail us with your description of the situation and I will
help you individually.)

We are now ready to Install Instant Messenger!

Now that you can see the aim95 file in your finder, just double-click on
top of it to start the installation. 

A welcome screen will appear - click [Yes]

The next welcome screen - click [Next]

A directory box pops up - click [Next]

Modem - click "use a modem" if you dial-in. Click [Next]

"Ready to install" - Click [Next]

Setup complete - click [OK]

When the AOL Instant Messenger Screen Name box appears, STOP.
Do not register a screen name at this time (Unless you want to.) We will
cover this in tomorrows' lesson. For now, Click [Cancel]

When the AOL IM sign-on screen appears, just click the "X" in the top-right
corner. We are done for the day! You can close or "X" any other stuff, such
as the "find" box if it is still there.
