Frequently Asked Question's

How are the areas set up in MNRealty?

When you enter a listing in our database, besides entering the City the listing is located in, you also enter an AREA. Our "Areas" are different from MLS districts or any other set-up we know of - it is designed to match the way many buyers look for homes - in broad geographic areas.

We invite the viewer to "browse" many listings, instead of specificly searching for a particular style or # of rooms.... as we all know... "buyers are liars.. " :)

Here's how we divide the Greater Metro:

Think of a doughnut, the "hole" is the Cities. The left side of the "hole is "City of Minneapolis," the right side of the "hole" is St. Paul. Around the hole is the doughnut, representing all the suburban rings. We divide this doughnut by the points of the compass. N - NE - E - SE - S - SW - W - NW. In addition, we have added some other areas as the Metro grows: The St. Croix (SC) Area runs up and down the River on both sides. Washington/Chisago Counties (WC) takes up most of the rest.

Examples of Cities in Areas:

  • SP - St. Paul - City proper. - Can use "Sub Area" such as "Highland" or "Como" or whatever.
  • MP - Minneapolis - City proper -Can use "Uptown","NorthEast"or whatever
  • NS - North Suburban: St. Anthony, Falcon Hts, Roseville, Shoreview, AH, Fridley, New Brigton, Blaine, Lino, Ham Lake, East Bethel, North Oaks (NE?) Etc.
  • NE - North East Suburban: Little Canada, Vadnais, White Bear, Mahtomedi, Dellwood, Hugo, Centerville, Lino, etc.
  • ES - East Suburban: Maplewood, N. Saint Paul, Oakdale, Oak Park Heights, Lake Elmo, Etc.

Now that I have you thouroughly confused, Consider Areas in Greater Minnesota as the state being a large "sheet cake" that is cut into 6 pieces: two across and three top to bottom. The "top-left piece of cake" is (G1) North/Western MN. Top-Right is (G2) North Eastern, including Duluth and the N. Shore. (G3) is West/Central, (G4) is East/Central - non-metro, (G5) is South/Western, (G6) is South/Eastern - Rochester, etc.

There's the info on Areas. If I've located you town incorrectly, just put it where it belongs and don't pay any attention to me! :) Thanks for your membership in the MN-Realty Web!
